Gamescom 2025 just kicked off with Opening Night Live, the annual showcase hosted by Geoff Keighley, and as usual, it was packed with trailers, surprises, and just a little bit of chaos. If you missed the stream (or just don’t want to sit through hours of it), don’t worry—we’ve got you covered. Here are 20 things you need to know from Gamescom’s big night.
20. La Divinia Comedia
Starting off strong with some Dante’s Inferno vibes. La Divinia Comedia is a new Soulslike inspired by Dante’s Divine Comedy. The gameplay trailer looked a little too “staged,” but hey—it’s Soulslike combat in hell, made by Italian devs Jyamma Games (the folks behind Enotria: The Last Song). Could this be the modern Dante’s Inferno game fans have been waiting for?
19. LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight
Yep, Batman’s back in brick form. This new open-world LEGO game lets you roam Gotham, drive different Batmobiles, and revisit iconic Batman moments from comics, films, and beyond. Think Arkham but with LEGO charm. It’s dropping in 2026.
18. Cinder City
NCSoft is back with another live-service shooter, this time in a flashy sci-fi setting. Expect mechs, grappling hooks, tanks, choppers—you name it. It looks slick, but whether it sticks or fades into the live-service graveyard is the big question.
17. Silent Hill F
New trailer, new creepy vibes. This one showed off the English voice cast, a strange new enemy, and some combat snippets. It feels very different from classic Silent Hill, but at least the franchise is alive again. Launches this fall.
16. Project Spectrum
From the Delta Force devs comes a PvPvE shooter with psychological horror elements. Imagine soldiers in a haunted battlefield, facing both human opponents and supernatural forces. Asymmetrical multiplayer with a spooky twist? Sign us up.
15. World of Warcraft: Midnight
Blizzard dropped another cinematic masterpiece for WoW’s 11th expansion, Midnight. It’s coming in 2026, and while details are still vague, the cinematic alone reminded us why Blizzard trailers always hit.
14. World of Tanks: Heat
A spinoff of the classic vehicle shooter, Heat is faster, flashier, and more chaotic than your usual tank fare. Oh, and World of Tanks 2.0 is also officially on the way.
13. Onimusha: Way of the Sword
The legendary series is creeping back. The latest trailer showed off grotesque enemies and more action. Still no release date, but old-school Onimusha fans are buzzing.
12. Death by Scrolling
From Ron Gilbert (Monkey Island) comes a quirky roguelike RPG where the screen never stops scrolling upward. The art style and concept scream “indie charm.” No date yet, but it already looks like a cult hit in the making.
11. Cult of the Lamb: Woolhaven
The cult is growing. A massive new expansion adds mounts, cultists, dungeons, and combat options. Coming 2026, and honestly? It’s the perfect excuse to dive back into one of the most underrated gems in recent years.
10. Zero Parades
From the Disco Elysium team, this new CRPG looks to deliver the same text-heavy, thoughtful storytelling with a unique art style. Expect complex themes and haunting writing. No release date yet.
9. Kingdom Come: Deliverance II – Legacy of the Forge
Henry’s back, this time rebuilding a blacksmith shop from the ashes. Expect crafting, storylines, and plenty of medieval drama. Launches September 9, 2025.
8. Release Dates Galore
Quick hits you need to know:
- Outer Worlds 2 – Oct 29
- Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 – Oct 21
- Deadpool VR – Nov 18
- Moonlighter 2 (Early Access) – Oct 23
- Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 – Nov 14
- Indiana Jones DLC – Sept 4
- Hollow Knight: Silksong – still “2025”… sigh.
7. Warhammer 40K: Dawn of War IV
The RTS classic returns. After a rocky Dawn of War III, fans are cautiously optimistic about this one. Coming in 2026.
6. Ghost of Yotei
Basically Ghost of Tsushima but with new weapons, more gore, and a vengeance tale. The big surprise? Legends multiplayer mode is confirmed for this sequel, coming post-launch in 2026.
5. Road Kings
A new trucking sim from Saber Interactive and Focus Home. Think Snowrunner, but more adventurous, with weather events and character-driven elements. Truck nerds, rejoice.
4. Black Myth: Zhong Kui
The Black Myth universe expands. After Wukong, Game Science is tackling another figure from Chinese mythology—Zhong Kui, a ghost-hunting god. Expect mythical beasts, realm-jumping, and gorgeous visuals. Still very early, but looks epic.
3. Valor Mortis
From the devs behind Ghostrunner, this Napoleonic-era horror-action Soulslike is easily one of the coolest surprises of the show. Gothic monsters, weird powers, and brutal combat. Releasing in 2026.
2. Lords of the Fallen II
The Soulslike sequel takes place 100 years after the last game, with even heavier gothic-metal vibes. Launching 2026.
1. Resident Evil 9: Requiem
Capcom capped the show with another cryptic RE9 trailer. We follow Grace Ashcroft (daughter of Alyssa Ashcroft from classic RE) in a tense sequence that doesn’t give much away. It’s mysterious, creepy, and pure Resident Evil. Fans at Gamescom will even get hands-on with a demo.
